Why not contact us to find out more about our interior-changing alterations?

Because we ‘convert up’ rather than ‘build out’, as with house extensions, your new living space doesn’t involve sacrificing any land in the garden. This is especially beneficial if your garden is already small to start with, or you simply use every inch of it, no matter its size.

If you’re one of the many people now working from home on a regular basis, converting a dark, musty loft into a dedicated office is the perfect permanent solution. Located at the top of your home, you have the best possible isolation from other distractions in the house. Loft conversions also create bright environments rich in natural light, helping to optimise your concentration and productivity.

Choosing a Loft Conversion Style

Colin Lynch Builders offers all types of loft conversion, including:

  • Rooflight – The entire conversion takes place within your roof’s existing structure. We install windows into the current slope, allowing natural light to flood in

  • Dormer – Our team constructs a box-shaped extension, integrating it into the rear roof slope. The interior space has a flat ceiling, vertical walls and ample headroom

  • Hip-to-Gable – This conversion process turns a hipped roof into a gable. We remove the hipped side, raise the outer wall and restructure the roof at a right angle

  • Mansard – We extend your current roof backward. The new structure has a flat roof and raised rear wall, the latter of which slopes inward at a gradient of 72 degrees

In addition to the 4 primary designs above, we also excel at hybrid conversions too. For example, we also undertake L-shaped dormer conversions. These projects involve the building of two dormers on different, but adjacent, parts of your property’s roof. We then connect them together, creating a distinctive L-shape when viewed from above.

Whichever option best suits your needs and property type, our team performs the complete conversion from the ground up. We have a team of experienced, highly skilled builders and tradesmen, all of whom cover the necessary services needed to achieve a flawless finish.

Is My Loft Suitable for Conversion?

Before you get too involved in planning how to use your new living or working space, you must first find out if your current loft meets conversion suitability criteria. An immediate helpful pointer is looking at similar houses in your neighbourhood. Do they have loft conversions? If yes, it’s almost certain yours is suitable.

For more concrete confirmation, go up into your loft and measure its head height. For a straightforward conversion, it must have a minimum clearance of 2.2m, measured between the floor and the tallest part of the roof.

It’s still possible for Colin Lynch Builders to convert your loft if this measurement comes in at 2.1m or less. However, your project will involve one of two additional phases of work, both of which lengthen the timescale and increase costs. You can either raise the height of the entire roof, or lower the ceilings in the rooms below.

We will also need to consider obstacles as well as the access into your loft. For the former, this includes features such as water tanks and chimneys. The latter influences the placement of the staircase connecting your new room with the floor below.

From a home office to an extra bedroom, our Enfield-based team can deliver a personalised conversion that fits seamlessly into your North London home.
